A letter home . . .

Hoover's Gold (Mago Films, 2005) features a number of scenes depicting the young Hoover's experiences on Western Australia's goldfields in the late 1890s. Here, Hoover (played by Matteo Bruno) is on one of his extensive mine inspection tours and is writing a letter home to his cousin Harriette. The many letters he wrote to family members are remarkably candid, revealing much about his motivations, aspirations and anxieties. They are a major source of information about his feud with his boss Ernest Williams, with excerpts featuring prominently in the film.
